BHUTAN PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS

Best seasons: March-May and September-November

The photography opportunities on a trip are immense. Photography is permitted nearly everywhere in Bhutan and the local population has no aversion to being photographed.

If you wish to record the local population, their houses, shops etc, always ask by gestures if it is okay to do so.

Photography inside the Dzongs and Monasteries are not permitted. Please follow your guide's instruction carefully while visiting Dzongs, monasteries and religious institution.

Of late, the Royal Government encourages the filming groups. Any commercial Filming must pay a royalty to obtain the permit from the Royal Government of Bhutan. We will assist you to get the permit.

BHUTAN FILMING TOURS

The rules and regulations for filming in Bhutan different from that of normal tours and treks.

Tourists or professionals intent on filming in Bhutan must abide by the Bhutanese Filing Regulations, 1995, available with the implementing agency, the Tourism Council of Bhutan. (the regulation does not apply to feature or cinematographic films). Applications for a filming permit must be submitted to the Tourism Council of Bhutan at least 30 days in advance.

The application must be accompanied by:

  • Synopsis of the film -Theme/background/objective/purpose etc.

  • Specific locations/objects/activities

  • Composition of the team and list of equipment, accessories/ consumables (members of the team will have to pay the full daily tourist tariff)

  • Letter of recommendation from sponsoring agency (application forms can be obtained from the Tourism Council of Bhutan on payment of Nu 300.)

Filming Royalty

  • First 30 Minutes or part thereof ~ US$10,000

  • Next 30 Minutes or part thereof ~ US$6,000

  • Every additional 30 Minutes or part thereof US$3,000

In addition a security deposit of US$5,000 must be deposited with the Tourism Council of Bhutan. This deposit will be refunded upon completion of the film to the satisfaction of the Tourism Council of Bhutan package. For detailed tour itinerary, please contact us.

BHUTAN BIRD WATCHING TOURS

The natural habitat of Bhutan is home to more than six hundred species of birds. More birds are being discovered every year and special surveys are going on to identify the magnitude of bird life in the country. Experts tout Bhutan as a bird watcher’s paradise; for comparison there are less than 800 species of birds found in all of North America.

A total of 14 bird species recorded in Bhutan as listed as globally threatened birds. These include the White-bellied heron, the Chestnut –breasted Partridge, Blyth’s tragopan, the Wood Snipe and the beautiful Nuthatch, all of them breed in Bhutan.

The country is also an important wintering ground for the graceful Black Necked Crane, and other winter visitors.

BHUTAN TEXTILE TOURS

Experience Bhutan’s unique and colourful history immortalized into vibrant textiles that are still proudly adorned by its people in the forms of Ghos and Kiras.

You can visit Bhutan’s only textile museum where archaic and priceless dresses dating back to hundreds of years are on display.
