AXUMAxum was an important trading nation in the northern Africa. It was deeply involved in the trade network between India and the Mediterranean.It grew from the ‘’Proto- Axsumite period ca. 4th century BC. It was also believed to be an important market place for ivory.The sea routes around the horn of Arabia and the Indian sub-continent were Akxum's specialty for nearly a millennium. It is also the alleged resting place of the Ark of the Covenant and the purported home of the Queen of Sheba.

LALIBELLALalibella, in the north, is one of Ethiopia's holiy cities (2nd after Axum). Lalibella is famous for its monolitic churches, carved from the living rock which play an important part of the history of rock-cut-architecture.Lalibella is today the center of pilgrimage for most of the country. The first European to see these churches was the Portuguese explorer Pêro da Covilhã (1460 – 1526). In the late 12th and early 13th century) the current town of Lalibela was known as Roha.

GONDARGondar, also called „The Camelot of Africa“, due to the presence of a group of royal castles, was once the old imperial capital and capital of the historic Begemder Province. It is located in the Semien Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region, Gondar is north of Tana Lake on the Lesser Angereb River and southwest of the Simien Mountains. The city's elvation above the sea level is 2133 meters.The modern city of Gondar is popular as a tourist attraction for its many picturesque ruins in the Royal Enclosure, from which the Emperors once reigned.

BAHIR DARBahir Dar was in 2002 awarded as UNESCO Cities for Peace Prize, for managing to address challenges of rapid urbanization.Bhir Dar is one of the leading tourist destinations in Ethiopia, with a variety of attractions in the nearby Lake Tana and Blue Nile river, and is considered as one of the most beautiful, well planned and safest cities after many standards. The city is known for its wide avenues lined with palm trees and a variety of colorful flowers. Bahir Dar 's origins date to at least the 16th or 17th century. |

HARRARHarrar, was founded between the 7th and 11th century, and is included in UNESCO considered as „the 4th holy city of Islam; with 82 mosques, where 3 of them date from the 10th century, and 102 shrines.Harrar is today the capital of the modern Harari ethno-political division of Ethiopia. The city is located on a hilltop, elevation 1885 meters, in the eastern extension of the Ethiopian highlands. Harar has for centuries been a major commercial centre, with trade routes to the rest of Ethiopia, Horn of Africa, Arabian Peninsula, and the outside world. Harar is also famous for its distinctive, natural (organic) processed coffees.

SOF OMARSof Omar Cave, the longest cave in Ethiopia; ranks as the 306th longest in the World. Situated in the Bale province in south-east Ethiopia, through which the Weyib River flows.Long, a religious centre, is sacred both to local traditional religions and to Islam.Sof Omar Cave is formed along a network of joints: one set runs from north to south and the other from east to west, with zig-zag of passages which run in a southeasterly direction.Sof Omar has 42 entrances, but only 4 are useful for gaining entrance. |

LAKE TANALake Tana, in Amhara Region, the north west of Ethiopia, is the largest lake in Ethiopia is the source of the Blue Nile. 84 km long, 66 km wide, with max. depth of 15 meters, elevation 1,840 meters, Lake Tana is fed by the Reb, Lesser Abay, and Gumara Rivers. It has been regulated since the construction of the control weir where the lake discharges into the Blue Nile, which regulates the flow to the Tis Abbai falls and hydro-power station.There are a number of islands in the lake (today 37), of which 8 are believed to have had monestries or churches. The monasteries rest on earlier religious sites. Remains of ancient Ethiopian emperors and treasures of the Ethiopian Church are kept in the isolated island monasteries |
