Country name |
People's Republic of China The stalemate of the last Chinese Civil War has resulted in two political entities using the name People's Republic of China (PRC) administering mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and the Republic of China (ROC) administering the island of Taiwan, Lanyu (Orchid Island), and its surrounding islands; and Green Island in the Pacific off the Taiwan coast, the Pescadores in Taiwan Strait, Kinmen and Matsu Islands off the coast of mainland Fujian. (The island groups of Taiwan and Penghu (except the municipalities of Taipei and Kaohsiung), are officially administrated as Taiwan Province of the Republic of China). |
